SAIC Motor, China's largest automaker, sold 517,000 vehicles in September, setting a monthly new high for the company, according to official data released by the carmaker on October 9th.

Since May, SAIC Motor has gradually shaken off the impact of COVID-19 and shifted into higher gear as business resumes, with sales growing for five consecutive months. The carmaker’s total sales volume reached 3.77 million units in the first three quarters, a year-on-year increase of 4.2 percent. Official data indicates that since this year, its new energy vehicles (NEVs) and overseas sales have reached nearly 700,000 units, both of which are expected to exceed one million.

SAIC Motor’s self-owned brands showed continuous growth in September, with total sales volume reaching 272,000, accounting for more than 50 percent of the carmaker's total sales. Among them, SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle Company, one of its subsidiary corporations, sold 75,000 vehicles, while sales of the new third generation Roewe RX5 and the super hybrid eRX5 totaled nearly 30,000 units since the new models entered the market two months ago.

IM, a joint electric vehicle development venture between SAIC Motor, Alibaba, and ZJ INNOPARK, delivered 1,019 units L7 in September. The new model is equipped with an intelligent driving assistance system, offering users a "human-like" intelligent driving experience.

The SUV R7, a new model launched by SAIC Motor's Rising Auto, entered the market at the end of September and was well received by consumers due to its minimalist design, top configuration, and high-end intelligent driving experience.

Sales of NEVs surged 48.5 percent year-on-year to 95,000 units in September, while the total sales volume of NEVs in the first three quarters hit 699,000, growing by 45.9 percent year-on-year. SAIC Motor Passenger Vehicle Company sold 24,000 NEVs, up 94.6 percent year-on-year. The MIFA hydrogen-powered vehicle produced by SAIC Maxus, started to offer ride-hailing services through SAIC Mobility. Although NEV sales of SAIC-GM grew by 73.9 percent year-on-year, the Hongguang MINI EV by SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) is still the champion in the Chinese NEV market, and the all-new Xingchen SUV, launched by SGMW, started delivery services last month.

In September, SAIC Motor’s overseas sales reached 108,000 units, up 51.2 percent year-on-year, hitting a new record. According to official data, from January to September, SAIC Motor sold 688,000 vehicles in the overseas market, which was close to its sales total in 2021.

MG4 Electric, SAIC Motor's new EV model, hit the market in nearly 20 European countries last month, including Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Norway and Sweden, which are expected to help SAIC Motor achieve its goal of selling more than 100,000 vehicles in the European market this year. MG4 Electric will enter more than 80 countries all over the world, aiming to be the first electric model developed "with global markets in mind".

At the IAA Transportation 2022 expo held from September 20 to 25 in Hanover, Germany, SAIC Maxus displayed its latest electric vehicles, including the MIFA 9, T90 EV and electric light trucks.
